Parent Code of Conduct

Wisconsin Dive Club is committed to the highest ideals of sport and expects all parents to honor these ideals. All Wisconsin Dive Club parents are expected observe the following Code of Conduct:

• I will remember that my child is participating in Wisconsin Dive Club for his/her enjoyment and will encourage participation, but will not force it. 
• I will encourage my child to dive by the rules and to resolve conflict without resorting to hostility or violence. 
• I will teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of the meet. I will make my child feel like a winner every time by offering praise for effort. 
• I will never ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or failing a dive. 
• I will remember that children learn by example. I will teach and practice good sportsmanship at all meets and practices. I will applaud good dives by both my child’s team and their opponents. I will not be critical of or embarrass any diver or coach. 
• I will never publicly question the judges’ judgment or honesty. Diving is a subjective sport and officials are to be treated with respect, even if I disagree with the scoring. I will express any concerns pertaining to officiating with the Wisconsin Dive Club coaching staff only, and they will handle it as they see fit. 
• I will respect and show appreciation for the volunteers, officials, coaches and administrators who provide opportunities for my child. 
• I will never yell, taunt, threaten or inflict physical violence upon any diver, coach, official or spectator at any Wisconsin Dive Club events. I will refrain from the use of abusive or vulgar language, racial, ethnic or gender-related slurs at any Wisconsin Dive Club function. 
• I will leave the coaching to the coaching staff. I will encourage my child to dive in a manner consistent with the coach’s strategy or plans. 
• I will communicate any concerns I have regarding my child’s diving with the Wisconsin Dive Club coaching staff either during business hours or during a scheduled meeting time. 
• I will insist that my diver dives in a safe and healthy environment. I will support a sports environment that is free of alcohol, vapes, drugs or tobacco and I will refrain from the use at all Wisconsin Dive Club events. 
• I will observe practices from the designated area only. 
• I will respect the coaches’ time and ensure my child is dropped off and picked up from practice on time.
